LAST STAMP FOR TONIGHT. I'LL FINISH WHAT I'M WORKING ON LATER TODAY, LEAVE ME ALONE. D8
And beware, this will be long. If you'd rather skip to the point, scroll down to "In conclusion".

Anyway, this is another point I want to bring up before I go to sleep. There are many characters people don't like. I doubt there's one character out there that someone DOESN'T like! There are a few characters I dislike, for various reasons, but it's because of how they're portrayed.

First example of a character I dislike...let's start with Ilia from Twilight Princess. I disliked her, and everyone else from Ordon for that matter. She was a useless damsel, and I'm sure she faked her memory loss. Plus she was rude to Lee at the beginning of the game. I also dislike Ilia/Lee. DX Bleck.

But as I thought about this more, I realized, it's not fair for me to dislike Ilia herself because of how the game portrays her. You see? If she were portrayed differently, I might have actually liked her. I don't know if that is how she truly is or if that's just how she's portrayed.

While I'm at it, let me bring up Princess Zelda (OOT/TP). In the games, her role is notably the wielder of the Triforce of Wisdom, and damsel in distress. She reveals her true power to be helpful to help Lee defeat the main boss. Seems useless in-game, doesn't it?

But think about Zelda in Melee and Brawl. She can seriously kick some arse to those who master her. Even without Sheik, Zelda is a powerful character. You see how differently she's portrayed there? Who cares if the games aren't canon to each other? Canon is just the story, nothing important.

Characters from popular series get a lot of hate, as well. We'll use Naruto as an example, since I know more about that.

The characters fans have deemed useless, like Sakura or Hinata. The character who did unforgivable deeds, like Sasuke. People only dislike them because of how they were portrayed. That isn't fair to the characters. Just because they're fictional doesn't give you the right to freely hate them.

If anything, dislike the creators for how they chose to portray their characters. We can't do anything to force them to change how they choose to portray their characters, though. That's why the fandom exists. We make it for ourselves, to make it more likable for us. You get it now, yes?

IN CONCLUSION
Think before you dislike. Is it the actual character you dislike, or is it how they're portrayed?

Thank you. -steps off soapbox and heads to bed-
